The SU-27, with its NATO designation “Flanker” was developed – just like the F-14 – at the height of the cold war between East and West, its final shape of 1977 resembling the F-14, and especially the land based F-15 “Eagle” closely. Two engines of the type Ljulka AL- 31F, with an afterburner thrust of an impressive 13,600 Kp, are capable of accelerating the “Flanker” to Mach 2.3. Its combat range is 1,500 km, which can be considerably extended with air refueling.
