THW (German Federal Agency for Technical Relief) uses various mobile cranes, such as the Liebherr LTM 1045 mobile crane, to lift heavy loads during severe salvage operations and temporary bridge construction. The rare cranes are also procured second-hand by THW if required. The THW design of the Herpa model is based on the Liebherr mobile crane of the THW training center in Hoya.
