DC-10 jets have been used for no less than twenty-eight years by JAL, and even after the merger with JAS, the type will not be retired immediately. The twelve -40 jets, initially ordered by JAL and Northwest, will remain in service for the time being. To put it in a nutshell, it is the type that was designed for „short long haul routes“ of up to 9,000 kilometers (4,860 air miles).
