The US Marine Corps, commonly known as the Marines, is the USA’s marine infantry and therefore part of the Navy. This corps comprises 200,000 soldiers who not only serve on ships but also operate land and air craft. This included unit VMFA-333, which was based on the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz in 1977, with the McDonnell Douglas F-4J “PhantomII” as its primary weapons system. Its escutcheon was the Irish shamrock, clearly visible on the tail unit of the fighter bomber with the registration 127.
