This TR-1, a variant of the U-2 equipped for tactical rather than strategic reconnaissance, together with other elements of the 17th Reconnaissance Wing was redeployed from its English base at RAF Alconbury to Saudi Arabia as part of Operation Desert Storm. Pilot and Crew seem to have been fans of the comic strip “Calvin and Hobbes” which was popular in the 1980s and 1990s, and applied Calvin with a camera to the right side of the stabilizer using chalk.
