“The Acropolis” was built as a C-54 for the USAAF and converted to a civilian DC-4 in 1945. TWA used its DC-4s primarily on the North African route from New York to Cairo. Up to 1950, TWA was officially registered as Transcontinental & Western Air, the slogan “The Trans World Airline” then becoming the official company name.
