After the founding of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s national airline in 1946, naturally the DC-3 belonged to the basic equipment of the royal fleet. The original of this model, registered SA-R-1, which is completely made of metal, was given to the king in 1945 by no less than US president Roosevelt. Two more were added in 1946 and these three machines flew until 1978.
