When Renault launched the first Premium-Line tractors in 1996, they were originally targeted to being lightweight alternatives to the flagship model Magnum. Mainly large companies, operating numerous vehicles, made use of this inexpensive and cost-saving truck. More than 100.000 units have been sold in more than 110 countries. In October 2005, the second generation of the Renault Premium was presented. Now, just after one year, the Herpa scale model is available. The first Premium is a tractor hauling a chrome-plated tank semitrailer, in the design of the famous Alfred Talke Transportation Company.
