Originally built in 1944 for the US Army Air Force, the aircraft first reached Australian soil in 1949 when it was sold to Qantas Empire Airways. In 1961 the aircraft was re-registered VH-EDB and named “Norfolk Trader”. She mainly saw use on routes from Mainland Australia to Norfolk Island, a small island group located roughly 1,400 km east off the Australian coast until being sold in 1977.
