At the age of 17, Willi Betz founded the shipping company of the same name. The company with headquarters in Reutlingen and several Eastern European subsidiaries, operates 4,500 trucks with approx. 7,750 staff members worldwide, thereof almost 2,300 in Germany, making it Europe’s biggest shipping company. This was possible especially because of the take-over of the former Bulgarian governmental shipping company SOMAT with headquarters in Sofia. The company operates subsidiaries in 25 countries and achieved a turnover of 720 million Euros in 2006.
