When MIAT was founded in 1956, it could still count on substantial support from Aeroflot. In 1998, the traditional route from the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar via Moscow to what was East Germany‘s major airport Berlin-Schönefeld was revived. The first model of the Mongolian airline‘s fleet carries the name of Genghis Khan, the legendary founder of the Mongolian empire.
