The Dutch airline KLM still carries the same name it was given when it was founded on October 7, 1919. That makes it the world's only airline that has clung to its name for more than eighty years. KLM stands for Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij (literally Royal Aviation Company). The Dutch queen Wilhelmina granted the airline the right to carry that royal name, and the company really fulfils all the expectations such a name suggests. Regardless of the numerous large alliances, KLM is still one of the world's leading and most respected airlines. The Boeing 747 has become part of KLM's fleet as early as 1971. The airline's current flagship plane is the Boeing 747-400. Today, KLM operates twenty-two aircraft of this type, plus thirteen more of the -200 and -300 versions. It received the Boeing 747-406 "City of Atlanta" in May 1989, registration PH-BFA, the first plane of its kind. This aircraft, with its classic royal blue, will be released as a model in October 2001. In the 1/200 scale, equipped with all the details of the Premium Series, it will become a crown jewel of every collection.
