In 1986, Hawaiian Airlines took over five Lockheed L-1011-1s from the Japanese ANA, with which it initially offered charter- and later on also scheduled flights inter alia to the US mainland. Doing so, the airline made the step from regional airline to an internationally renowned carrier.
