N361HA was the final of 24 A330s delivered to Hawaiian and the first to receive the updated livery. Next to modest modifications on the tail colors, the iconic “maile lei” (flower garland) now wraps around the fuselage. The aircraft is named Hoku-Mau, the Polynesian name for the second brightest star in the Little Dipper or Ursa Minor constellation. Traditionally named Holopuni, the star was renamed in honor of Mau Piailug, a 20th century Micronesian navigator who taught the almost forgotten skill of non-instrument navigation to Hawaiian seafarers.
