On November 24, 1955, PH-NIV took off on her maiden flight. Designed as a successor to the proven but aging Douglas DC-3, the Fokker 27 quickly became a success for the Dutch manufacturer. Next to 600 “Friendships” were built in total that were operated by airlines and air forces in all corners of the globe.
