The airline was created in 2016 to replace Senegal Airlines, the former national airline of the West African country. Flights commenced two years later, in 2018, initially with ATR-72 turboprops. With the arrival of the first of two A330-900neo aircraft, the first for an African airline, Air Senegal started long-distance flights between Dakar and Paris the following year. With the arrival of a second A330neo a few months later, New York City was added to its international route network.
