What seems like a jet is actually a novel space ship currently designed by a British company. The specialty of Skylon: Thanks to its hybrid drive, it is supposed to take off from an airport just like an airplane without needing a special ramp. During the first flight phase to the boundaries of the atmosphere, the engine works like one of a jet, afterwards like a rocket engine. The spacecraft is completely reusable – making space travel significantly cheaper, so the company which has been researching on that spacecraft for 20 years. As from 2020, Skylon is supposed to supply the ISS with goods, later on, a passenger version is planned.
