With three DC-10s and 14 MD-11s, World Airways today operates predominantly on the “Wet-Lease” charter market for other carriers, but has nevertheless given itself a new, and significantly more ambitious outfit which could suggest new plans for an own charter and scheduled service. However, core business will remain flights for the US Air Force’s Military Airlift Command as well as operations for Air Canada, Lufthansa Cargo and UPS. The original of this model is an MD-11ER, which, equipped for 370 passengers, has often transported GI’s to hot-spots of American foreign policy. Herpa will premiere the MD-11F model with open cargo and cockpit doors. Also enclosed is a container loader in the same scale.
