One cannot simply ignore Lockheed’s gigantic C-5 Galaxy. Designed and developed in the 1960s, this heavy airlifter with a load capacity of more than 120 tons (270,000 lb) is still operated today by the U.S. Air Force. 131 units of this 247 ft long aircraft were built. One of the operators of this type is the 60th Air Mobility Wing located at Travis Air Force Base in California.
