After heavy economical blows, the world’s second largest airline was forced to complywith bankruptcy protection measures for three years, until February 1, 2006. DuringChapter 11 proceedings, the airline divested itself of approximately 100 airplanes for reasonsof economy. The original of this model, the Boeing 747-422 with the registrationN196UA has, however, survived the drastic fleet reduction. It was commissioned in June1997 and today flies with the airline’s new livery.
