The original of this impressive aircraft was delivered to the USAF by Lockheed in 1971, its service on Dover Air Force Base starting 1973. In the following year, the Air Force undertook a unique test in which an intercontinental missile was launched from this C-5A in flight. After more than four decades the operational life of this aircraft ended in 2013. This Galaxy was then transferred to the Air Mobility Command Museum, also located at Dover, where it is preserved as the museum’s largest exhibit. New on this model are the General Electric TF39 engines and the original white and gray delivery color scheme. Metal landing gear with rubber tires provide a sure standing for this resin-made model.
