Based on the Boeing 707, the E-3 Sentry has been a central asset for the United States Air Force to this day. First introduced in 1977, 34 aircraft were delivered to the USAF in total, 30 of which are still active today. Four of these constantly updated aircraft are in service with the Pacific Air Forces from Alaska and Japan. Since 1979, the 961st Squadron has been stationed at Kadena Air Base on the Japanese island of Okinawa, providing surveillance, command and communications for the 18th Wing and its other seven units.
