The 11th Bomb Squadron is one of the oldest air force units of the United States, having been organized back in June 1917 and deployed to France in fall of the same year as part of the U.S. war effort in World War I. Mr. Jiggs was a popular cartoon character created by an officer of the 11th Squadron, which was then adapted as the emblem of the unit soon after its formation, a bomb tucked under his arm. "Jiggs Squadron" is one of three squadrons that form the flying units of the 2nd Bomb Wing based at Barksdale Air Base in Louisiana.
