At TWA’s instigation, Lockheed developed the L-049 already in 1939, as well as the extended “Super Constellation”, which was launched by TWA in 1951. Solely because of its exterior, the “Super Connie” became the epitome of aviation of the “Golden Fifties”. TWA was the largest “Super Conny” operator by far. The original of this mold novelty is the further improved L-1049 Super Constellation model with an extended radar nose and long distance tiptanks. It was commissioned in 1955 as N6937C by TWA, and this airplane still flies today, being the only example able to do so in the USA. The club “Save A Connie” was responsible for its careful restoration.
