The introduction of the TriStar at TWA coincided with the oil crisis of 1973. Suddenly, the jet was too big for domestic flights, but its range too short for services to Europe. In 1978, TWA introduced its new livery with the improved Lockheed L-1011-100, which N31033 still carried in 1981.
