The Trabant was built at the VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau in the former GDR from 1957. In the first few years he was considered economical and robust, later the Trabant proved to be more and more outdated due to the lack of innovations. Many years after the turn, the Trabi is now considered a “cult car” with many own fan clubs all over the world. Between 1957 and 1991 a total of 3,051,385 vehicles were produced by the "Trabant" series. As of January 1, 2005, around 67,000 vehicles were registered in Germany at the German Federal Motor Transport Authority. However, many vehicles were exported to Poland and above all Hungary in GDR times.
