Texas International, founded in 1978 from its predecessor Trans Texas Airways, was the first "cheap airline" in the USA. The concept proved such a success that in 1982, even Continental Airlines was taken over by a holding company called Texas Air Corp., which later took over Eastern Air Lines as well. Texas International and Eastern, however, eventually disappeared from the market. The original of this limited-edition model – 2,000 pieces – is the DC-9-14, registration N8902E, named "City of San Antonio", built in 1966.
