Its conspicuous livery was certainly one of the reasons why the airline, founded in 1931 as Boston-Maine Airways, was one of the best-known airlines in the USA until the late 1960s. The yellow and white planes were called "Yellowbirds", and were especially popular. In 1972, the company was taken over by Delta Air Lines.
