Gottfried Schenker founded the Schenker Company in 1872 in Vienna, Austria and focusedon railway transportation services. After the First World War, the company focused on express service, local distribution, moving service, fair transportation and the first air cargotransports. In 1931, the East German State Railway took over Schenker. In 1945, followingdispossession and the loss of several subsidiaries, the company started building up business once again. Worldwide subsidiaries were founded. The majority of Schenker was then taken over by the Stinnes AG in 1991. In 2002, the German Federal Railway took over the entire Stinnes AG Company.
