NIS stands for Naftna industrija Srbije meaning Serbian petrol industry. The company was established in 1991 and has been owned by Gazprom since 2008. The company’s main activities are the exploration of gas and oil in Serbia and the production, import, processing, transport and marketing of oil and gas. NIS has over 11,000 employees, operates more than 500 gas stations all over Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. Annually, over 7 million tons of crude oil is processed.
