Walter Hoyer founded the company in 1946 and transported goods himself by operating a truck all around Hamburg. The nearby port necessitated that in the course of the years more and more freights had to be transported. With the establishment of the container traffic, the aspiring company increasingly specialized in transporting standard and tank containers. Today, via subsidiaries and agents, the company is worldwide active in 87 countries with approx. 4.700 employees. The Herpa model is a semitrailer with provisions tank container.
