From the necessity to protect the rapidly developing city and for uniformity in organization and equipment of fire protection, on February 2, 1903, the municipal fire department was established in Wiesbaden. At that time, only several auxiliary fire departments like the Pompiercorps, the gymnast brigade, and the “shoemaker” brigade, which – together with the staff of the gas- and water works - formed the first day- and night fire department, were more or less independent fire departments which, at times, even competed against each other. These fire departments were – as different as they were – also equipped very differently. That is long gone history. Subdivided in three watch areas, the brigade comprises of a modern fleet, equipped with ELW and turntable ladders up to even fire-fighting boats. Two very interesting models were picked from the extensive selection for the December eXtra new releases, which are offered together as a set. Limited to 1,000 items, the set will contain a Vito operation control vehicle and a MAN turntable ladder which is produced – contrary to the picture – with a short driver’s cabin. Only available in December 2007 at one of our Herpa eXtra partner shops in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
