50 years ago, in 1968, the Hungarian airline acquired its first jet aircraft: the TU-134. The last of the Soviet-built twinjets were retired in 1997. With the introduction of the first TU-134 in the summer of 1969, Malév was propelled into the jet age. The type was retired only in 1998, making way for more modern western aircraft.
