No less than three wings were equipped with the small and highly-maneuverable Alpha Jet in the 1980s. The last unit to reequip with the close-support aircraft was Fighter-Bomber Wing 41, based in Husum, in Northwestern Germany. As support and defense for its NATO partner Turkey during Operation Desert Storm against Iraq, a NATO quick reaction force which also included twelve Alpha Jets of the 41st Wing, deployed to Erhac in Southeastern Turkey in early 1991.
