In 1998, this Boeing 747-400, registered D-ABVM and the name “Hessen” was commissioned by Lufthansa. In 2010 it will be replaced by a new 747-8. Boeing has decided, after some consideration and not least because of its competitor Airbus’ A380 supply difficulties, to develop the 747. Lufthansa has even placed an order for 20 747-8 aircraft to be delivered from 2010 on.
