In the wake of the Covid pandemic, Lufthansa mothballed all Airbus A380s. Due to a strong recovery in demand, and also ongoing delays with the Boeing 777-9, the largest German airline has now decided to reactivate at least six of the remaining eight super-jumbos. On June 1, 2023, D-AIMK was the first aircraft to return to regular scheduled service, initially on the Munich – Boston route. Three double-deckers are to follow shortly two more A380s are then to be brought out of long-term storage and made operational in 2024.
