When in May 1973, the first L-1011-100 in the new, flashy and glaring red livery arrived in Düsseldorf, it triggered the raise of LTU to temporarily become Germany’s biggest and probably most renowned vacation carrier. It was the first of over ten TriStars, which remained in operation for LTU for over 20 years until they were replaced by MD-11s respectively Airbus A330s from 1991. The original of this model with the registration D-AERA had already been sold to Eastern Air Lines in the USA then went to Cathay Pacific later on and meanwhile was scrapped. The model of LTU’s first TriStar is limited to 1.000 items and will be available in March 2009 from your eXtra retailer at a price of 22 Euros.
