The first of these small and nimble Yakovlev-designed trijets arrived in Poland in 1972, several entering the LOT fleet from 1981. Configured for 24 passengers, LOT’s Yak-40 fleet operated flights to almost all European ports, even including longer-distance flights from Poland to Morocco or Gibraltar. SP-GEA was retired in 1994, seeing use with other operators until being broken up for spares in 2008.
