Since its establishment in 1871, Continental has developed from a sole tire and caoutchouc specialist to a worldwide leading and international active automobile supplier. At the beginning, about 200 employees were working at its main plant in Hannover producing inter alia soft rubber goods like hot-water bags, dolls, rubberized fabrics and solid tires for carriages and bicycles. In the course of time, the national and international orientation was consistently promoted. Today, the company with now 155,000 employees achieves an annual turnover of 26 billion Euros. From the beginning, Continental has had outstanding technology expertise. Continental was the first company worldwide to develop profiled tires for cars (1904), removable rims for touring cars (1908) and was the first German company to produce tubeless tires (1943).
