In January 2020, Etihad Airways took delivery of their latest of currently 38 Boeing 787 aircraft in a special green livery. This "Greenliner" is part of a sustainability program by the Abu Dhabi-based airline with which research during flights will be conducted to find ways to reduce the carbon footprint of every journey. This will include looking into the use of lighter materials on board or trying out new descent methods to reduce fuel consumption as well as flying with alternative aviation fuels.
