In December 1963 Delta Air Lines commissioned its first DC-8-51. 14 machines were ordered, amongst them the original ofthis model with the registration N812E, limited to 1,500 items. Delta kept the kerosene guzzling long haul jets for 13 years,until the oil crisis made their operation untenable.
