2020 was not a good year for the “Queen of the Skies”, the Boeing 747. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting collapse in demand, several airlines radically started retiring numerous aircraft, the venerable Jumbo Jet often being among them. To commemorate the end of the 747-era at British Airways, we are looking back at the beginnings: In November 1973, half a year before the official merger of BEA and BOAC to British Airways, G-AWNN was the first Jumbo Jet to receive the new corporate design of the united airline. Even though the “Queen” had already been in service with BOAC, this 747 was the first to carry the “British Airways” titles into the world. A display stand will be included with this special release.
