June 15, 1916, was a special date in the founding of a global corporation and an aviation leader. On that day, the very first Boeing aircraft, the Boeing Model I, also often called the B&W named after its designers William Boeing and US Navy Lieutenant Conrad Westervelt, took off from Lake Union in Seattle. To kick off the centennial in 2015, Herpa will release a new production run of the two-seat bi-plane in a set together with an elaborately designed cardboard model of the first Boeing production plant, popularly known as the ”Red Barn“ as well as a small two-sided ground plate. Two versions of the building will be included in the set, one showing its original state back in 1916/1917, the other depicting its current condition as it can be visited today as part of the Boeing Museum of Flight in Seattle. The B&W has a wing span of 3,1 cm / 1.2 in, the building measuring 8 by 5,6 cm / 3.1 by 2.2 in, and the groundplate 21 by 15 cm / 8.3 by 5.8 in.
