As part of its fleet modernization, Ansett initially purchased two Convair CV-340s originally intended for Braniff in 1954. Instead of repainting the aircraft, Ansett management decided to keep the basic livery of the aircraft, only changing the name and branding to Ansett, and applying the Braniff-style livery to the rest of its fleet.
