In 1967, Texas-based Braniff International revolutionized commercial aviation with its radical new color scheme – or rather color schemes. In 1970, Braniff received its first Boeing 747, which mainly operated on the Dallas-Honolulu and Dallas-London routes. The jumbo jets were all painted in bright orange, which quickly earned them the nickname "Big Pumpkins".
